Third Space Brewing Wins Two Medals at 2018 Great American Beer Festival®

Unite the Clans Scottish-Style Rye Ale and Unbridled Enthusiasm Juicy Double IPA Win Prestigious Brewing Honor

Milwaukee, Wisconsin (September 25, 2018) – Third Space Brewing won two medals at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition.

Unbridled Enthusiasm won a bronze medal in the Imperial IPA category and Unite the Clans won a silver medal in the Rye Beer category. This award was the second GABF medal for Unite the Clans, which won a gold medal in the same category in 2017. The bronze medal for Unbridled Enthusiasm is the first medal for a Wisconsin beer in any IPA category in the history of the competition.

Only six GABF medals have been awarded to Wisconsin breweries in the two years that Third Space Brewing has been operating and Third Space has won three of them. GABF is the largest commercial beer competition in the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 102 beer-style categories were announced September 22 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, CO.  Third Space Co-Founder and Director of Sales and Marketing, Andy Gehl, attended the awards ceremony and had the honor of accepting both awards for the brewery.

“We are overjoyed to have our beers recognized with the most prestigious award in the craft beer world yet again,” said Gehl. “Seeing Unite the Clans win a second medal in two years was amazing and really validates the opinions of that beer’s many loyal customers.” Gehl added.

“I am especially honored to win a medal in the Imperial IPA category, one of the most competitive categories in the competition,” said Kevin Wright, Co-Founder and Brewmaster at Third Space Brewing. “We have always been known for our hoppy beers at Third Space, so it is great to see one of our IPAs receive national recognition,” Wright added.

Unite the Clans has a toffee malt sweetness that is balanced by a bready spiciness and a touch of roast in the finish.  Unbridled Enthusiasm has a juicy hop character from generous dry hopping with mosaic and citra hops. Unite the Clans is a year-round offering both on draft and in 6-pack 12-ounce cans. Unbridled Enthusiasm is a seasonal beer in Third Space’s Specialty IPA series. It is currently available for a limited time in both 4-pack 16-ounce cans and on draft.

Third Space also offers its Happy Place Midwest Pale Ale and Upward Spiral IPA in cans, as well as several rotating seasonal beers. Third Space beers are available in approximately one-thousand retail locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin, including at Miller Park, the Fiserv Forum, and Lambeau Field.

Third Space Brewing recently celebrated its second anniversary brewing beer in Milwaukee’s historic Menomonee Valley on St. Paul Avenue and 15th street. Third Space is on pace to sell over 5,000 barrels of beer in its second calendar year and has gained a wide following in the growing Milwaukee craft beer scene for making flavorful, yet balanced quality craft beers and for having a fun and unique tap room and beer garden.

The 2018 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 293 expert judges from 8,496 entries, received from 2,404 U.S. breweries, plus 101 Pro-Am and 49 Collaboration entries.

“The 32nd edition of the GABF competition yielded a remarkable turnout of the country’s most exemplary beers,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, Great American Beer Festival. “I’m continuously impressed by contenders’ talent and passion and would like to extend congratulations to this year’s winners for their excellence in brewing.”
